The Notion of a Christian Nation
One of my favorite websites is The Sinner's Guide to the Evangelical Right, a place for people like me who are truly fed up with the sanctimonious posturings of fundamentalist evangelicals who think they know what is best for you, me, and this great country of ours. The site posts news and articles of the goings-on in the fundamentalist arena. Anyway, I'm sure you've heard about John McCain's oft-revised answer to the question of whether or not he would vote for a non-Christian presidential candidate.
Once again, the argument that this nation was "founded on the Christian religion" seemed the main basis for McCain's answer.
Well, not likely.
The Sinner's Guide site have posted an article that appeared in the New York Times, disputing the claim that the United States of America is a "Christian nation."
check it out here and happy reading!

Also, here's the entire text of the treaty, in case you are interested.
