Harve Presnell
Just read in the paper this morning that Harve Presnell lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this week. My gosh... we keep losing people. I am reminded of that line in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in which Jim Broadbent's character laments that they are living in a time when life seems to be taking away rather than giving.
Harve Presnell is not a household name. But I knew who he was. He starred in The Unsinkable Molly Brown, both on Broadway and in the film. He also starred in the Coen Brothers' film Fargo and played the mysterious Mr. Parker on the television show, The Pretender.
He had a beautiful baritone voice and my sister was lucky enough to find a recording of Orff's Carmina Burana featuring Harve Presnell's vocals.
Here is a clip of him singing with Julie Andrews:
But, he will always be remembered as Johnnie Brown...
Goodbye, Harve... You will be missed.
